David in the White City

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

One of our favorite things is mixing the old with the new. Whether it is the way we dress, our interiors, or even in a restaurant. Sepia, in Chicago, has taken an old print factory from 1890, renovated it without losing the character and created an up to date décor. The wood and bricks are warm, welcoming and familiar.  In a more modern
space the oversized chandeliers would create a fuss, but here they are just a reminder that it is 2011.

The feeling is comforting, like your favorite pair of re-soled shoes.  Even the music on their website is a mash up of Billie Holiday singing ‘God Bless the Child’ and a little electronica.

And the food is really good too.
